It Communications Coordinator / Technical Writer Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Performs advanced informational and communications work. Work involves researching, writing, editing, and production of content and materials for release to various communications media (website, news, print, digital, and/or social) and for use by the agency and the general public.

2. Must have experience using website content management systems.

3. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud tools. (Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, XD and Audition).

4. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

5. Experience in web and social media analytics tracking using tools such as Google Analytics and Hootsuite.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Years Skills/Experience

5 Knowledge of agency functions, policies, and procedures; of news and communication media; of various social media platforms; of editing and preparing informational material; of copy layout; and of publishing and broadcast industries.

5 Ability to research and prepare information, to implement communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose usable content for the Web and social media, to prepare copy and scripts, and to implement broad communications plans and materials to communicate effectively.

5 Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of staff; manage multiple deadlines; maintain positive and productive working relationships with all levels of staff; work independently with limited supervision; listen effectively, follow and process instructions; manage stress; work collaboratively, maintain positive and productive working relationships.

3 Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel to perform data organization, data pivoting and filtering.

3 Experience in web-based mailing list and survey software platforms, including managing custom form creation, managing contact lists, importing lists from various sources, creation of custom merge codes, template design and incorporation of rich media (e.g. MailChimp, SurveyGizmo).

3 Ability to develop and execute communications materials, including publication designs, custom illustrations, web graphics, PowerPoint presentations, social media tiles, data visualizations and infographics.

3 Assisting in the visual design and content maintenance of various agency websites, landing pages and dashboards using technologies such as HTML, CSS and content management systems (e.g. Umbraco, WordPress).

3 Ability to conceptualize creative ideas with internal stakeholders and communicate design ideas using wireframes, process flows, user flows and/or sample pages or documents.

3 Experience conducting video and audio recordings. Possess the ability to capture studio quality photographs, audio and video.

3 Experience and understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and assist in remediating accessibility issues.

Develops and manages the agency website content, updates, and special projects.

Responsible for keeping the website content current.

Assists with and prioritizes website projects in concert with communications and IT team. Develops vision and processes for improving website look, user interface, and content.

Directly implements website changes through website content management system.

Coordinates the illustrative, photographic, or audiovisual content of products.

Assists with interviews, stories and ensures the completeness and accuracy of printed and online materials.

Assists with maintaining an archive library of relevant communications information about CPRIT and its grantees including news clips, CPRIT photos, videos and presentation slide decks.

Monitors content on social media sites and/or prepare content for posting, such as broadcast messages, and general comments.

Manage CPRIT’s website content to ensure accuracy and transparency to the public; serve as the liaison to the CPRIT information technology team.

Performs related work as assigned.

Perform travel related assignments and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
