About The Role

We are looking for a senior internal communications pro with extensive experience in technology-related communications. The newly created role of Director, Internal Communications – Engineering will support our fast-growing global Engineering organization. This person is a storyteller who’s passionate about technology and masterful at communicating complex information in simple, creative ways. They will be a trusted advisor to leaders and partners at all levels of the Engineering org and manage communications to keep employees informed both within Engineering and across the broader company. They’ll partner closely with the Engineering People Business Partner team on all people strategies, initiatives and programs. This role reports to the SVP, Product Engineering & Operations and will be a key member of our broader Communications team, with a dotted line to Internal Communications & Employer Brand.

Responsibilities: What You’ll Do
  • Create and implement internal communication plans to ensure employees within Engineering and across Roku are informed about strategic initiatives, milestones, org changes and teams
  • Be a proactive business partner with leaders across Engineering to ensure internal communications are timely, relevant and engaging
  • Amplify the Roku culture across Engineering; provide targeted communications to reach and engage Engineering teams around the world
  • Plan and execute Engineering events, including “Tech Talks,” quarterly all hands and other large meetings
  • Assist Engineering leaders with presentation development and coaching, blog posts and other communication needs
  • Maintain an editorial calendar to ensure a steady cadence of relevant, timely and engaging content across channels
  • Produce an Engineering newsletter and contribute content for enterprise communication channels, including but not limited to the Roku newsletter, intranet/digital workspace, company meetings, Slack and digital signage
  • Maintain internal editorial and design standards to ensure a consistent voice/style that reflects the Roku brand and culture
  • Collaborate with the Employer Brand team on communications to attract top Engineering talent to Roku
  • Maintain a dashboard to track progress against communication KPIs, and regularly share data with stakeholders; use analytics/insights to drive continuous improvement
  • Participate in Engineering leadership team meetings and as a member of the corporate Internal Communications team
Competencies: We’re excited if you have…
  • 10+ years of internal communications experience, focused on technology, at high-growth, mid-to-large size companies
  • Experience creating and executing strategic communication plans in support of global engineering/technical teams (e.g., software engineering, hardware engineering, product development, data science)
  • Ability to communicate complex information in simple, compelling ways
  • Experience producing communications across channels including but not limited to events/town halls, presentations, newsletters/digital workspace and video
  • Strong editorial planning and writing/storytelling skills; able to produce a high volume of timely, relevant and engaging content for both engineering and general employee audiences
  • Excellent influencing skills; experience serving as a trusted advisor to business partners at all levels
  • Pragmatic, data-driven approach and bias for action, with a test-and-learn mindset
  • Highly collaborative and flexible work style, high comfort level with ambiguity, and ability to adapt quickly and prioritize wisely
  • Good judgment, particularly under pressure
  • Self-driven, proactive mindset, with ability to work quickly and independently
